Fracking—or hydraulic fracturing—is used to force gas deposits from shale rock formations. But such activities may also contaminate drinking water, pollute the air, and cause earthquakes. Natural gas drillers are exploiting regulatory loopholes or ignoring environmental rules outright, showing distinct disregard for the health of communities near drilling areas.
